ASEAN Regional Forum

Timor-Leste hosted the Regional Forum of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to discuss the theme of “Preventive diplomacy in a post-conflict environment”.
Timor-Leste is a full member of this forum since 2005, which has as its objective the promotion of a constructive dialog on political and security issues at the regional and international level.
The event was chaired by Timor-Leste, Singapore and New Zealand, and among the speakers were Timorese Nobel Peace Prize winner and former President of the Republic José Ramos-Horta and the Minister of Justice, Dionísio Babo.
Around 100 participants from ASEAN countries such as Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam were present; Australia, Canada, China, European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia and USA; As well as observer countries of the organization, such as Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste.
