  1. Website objectives

The internet revolution has transformed the world. Therefore, it is of outmost importance and usefulness to create a website for the Embassy of DRTL to the Kingdom of Belgium, its objective being to:

  • Enhance public access to information about identified services;

  • The Joint Declaration attached to the Agreement between the European Union and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on the short-stay visa waiver obliges the Parties to ensure the full dissemination of information about the content and consequences of the visa waiver agreement and related issues, such as the entry conditions. Hence, it was provided a specific folder under the name “Travel Advise”, which clarifies the conditions in which either a Timorese citizen travels to Europe as when an European citizen travels to Timor-Leste;

  • In addition to that legal obligation, the Embassy of DRTL considers of major importance the promotion of Timor-Leste not only in tourism, but also to show the country as one with many investment opportunities, hence having a folder reserved to “Investing in Timor-Leste”;

  • Education represents an area in which the Government of Timor-Leste has invested to large degree and it is undoubtedly a priority. In order to provide more and better study opportunities for young Timorese, information about scholarships available for Timorese citizens in Europe can be found on the Website;

  • Finally, the Embassy of DRTL seeks to publicise the most recent news on various topics: about Embassy activities that it is performing with details on important meetings in which the Embassy attends, as well as news on the EU-TL relation; on Timorese headlines that might interest citizens that are in Europe and on Europe;

  • Most of all, the objective of this Website is to bridge the gap between Timorese citizens, European citizens and the services of the Embassy.
