About the Embassy

The Government of Timor-Leste created the Representation in Brussels, shortly after the Restoration of Independence, which was celebrated on May 20, 2002.


Main activities of the Embassy:

Multilateral Representation:

  • Access and Influence: The Embassy allows Timor-Leste to closely follow EU policies and decisions, participate in debates and negotiations, and defend its interests with international organizations present in Brussels or in accredited countries such as OEACP, UNESCO, BIE , WCO, etc.
  • Resource Mobilization: The Embassy facilitates access to EU development funds, technical cooperation and the establishment of partnerships with European countries and organizations.
  • Visibility and Recognition: The presence of the Embassy reinforces Timor-Leste’s visibility on the European scene, promoting its recognition as a sovereign State and its participation in the international community.

Bilateral Representation:

  • Accreditations: The Embassy in Brussels is accredited for the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Federal Republic of Germany, France, Poland and the Czech Republic
  • Approach and Cooperation: The Embassy facilitates communication and collaboration between the governments of Timor-Leste and accredited countries, allowing for better articulation of interests and agendas.
  • Promotion of Trade and Investment: The physical presence of the Embassy facilitates the identification of business opportunities, the promotion of Timorese products and services and the attraction of investments from accredited countries to Timor-Leste.
  • Support for the Timorese Diaspora: The Embassy offers consular and support services to the Timorese community residing in accredited countries, promoting their integration and well-being.

Promotion of Timor-Leste in Europe:

  • Promotion of Culture and Tourism: The Embassy organizes events and initiatives to make the culture, history and tourism potential of Timor-Leste known to the European public.
  • Attracting Foreign Investment: The Embassy promotes the country as an investment destination, highlighting its opportunities and competitive advantages in various sectors.
  • Improving the International Image: The presence of the Embassy contributes to building a positive image of Timor-Leste in the world, reinforcing its reputation as a peaceful, democratic and developing country.

  • From 2016 to 2021 – H.E. Ambassador Francisco T. Cepeda.
  • From 2011 to 2015 – H.E. Ambassador Nelson Santos
  • From 2008 to 2011 – H.E. Marciano da Silva (Charger d’Affaires a.i.)
  • H.E. Ambassador José António Amorim Dias was nominated as the first Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium and held the post until 2008.

The Embassy headquarters are located at Avenue de Tervuren, 102 – 1040 Brussels.
